How to Increase Your Website Traffic Through Social Media

Websites

It’s one thing to have a website for your business but it’s another for actually getting people to land there. Are you practicing the right social media strategies to help drive traffic to your website? Here are 4 tried and true ways you can use your social media platforms to drive traffic to your website.

Focus only on relevant platforms for your business

Not all social media platforms reach the same audience. For example, Facebook is generally known to cater more towards an older demographic. Pinterest appeals more to women (like 76% !!) rather than men. TikTok is most popular among younger millennials and Gen Z. And the majority of Instagram users are individuals between 18 and 35 years old.

It’s also important to consider where your content will be the most relevant and gain the most traction. If you’re a product-based business, channels like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok will likely be the most effective platforms for you as they each prioritize content that features visual elements, like photos and videos. On the other hand, if you’re a blogger, freelancer, or business consultant sharing content on more professional topics, then sites like LinkedIn or even YouTube might be the best option for you!

Create shareable and visually-appealing content

When creating content for social channels, you not only want to publish content that is eye-catching and aesthetically pleasing, but content that’s also relevant, valuable, and educational for your target audience. You want your audience to enjoy what you’re posting and even be inclined to share it with their family and friends.

Once you have their attention, the key to getting them to your website is including an enticing call to action in every post. A good CTA will let your audience know what they need to do next. If they like your content and if they’re interested in browsing your products or services, where do they need to go? Let them know where to go by calling out any links you want them to click on from your profile. If there’s no call to action, the only thing your audience may be inclined to do is give your post a “like” and keep scrolling.

Implement SEO best practices to your social channels

Make sure you are filling out your social profiles with relevant keywords so that your target audience can find you. When you think about it, social media platforms are becoming more and more like search engines every year. The better your search engine optimization (or SEO), the higher you rank in search results.

The best places to add your keywords are in your bio section and tagline or heading areas of your social media profiles. For example, we included keywords like branding, web design, websites, and small businesses in our bios because that is what our business focuses on. Of course the more specific you can be, the better!

Other SEO strategies include implementing hashtags in your bio and posts, adding geo tags to let people know where you’re geographically located, and keeping your links / contact information up to date on your profile.

Be consistent with your posts and engagement

A rule of thumb is that you should be posting at least 2-3 times a week. We’re firm believers in quality over quantity! You want your name and your content to be in front of your audience as much as possible, without overdoing it and spamming people’s feeds with low-quality content. On days when you don’t post something to your feed, try posting a couple of Instagram or Facebook Stories throughout the day to keep your engagement up on non-post days.

We always recommend to create a content calendar for yourself to help create that rythem and consistency with your posting. You want to avoid super random, sporadic posting if you can. Frequently engaging with your audience (commenting, liking, sharing) will also grab your audience’s attention and make them more likely to check out what you have to offer.
